LAILA BELL :
Laila Bell was born north of Copenhagen, Denmark. She studied full-time for five years at Copenhagen Art School, examining many different mediums and learning the traditional methods of drawing and studying the figure. She then studied at both The Art Institute of Chicago and The Art Academy of San Francisco to complete her formal schooling in the arts.
In 1985, a new phase started with her immigration to Australia. She has had numerous exhibitions mainly showing paintings and drawings. In the year 2000, Laila began to sculpt. Sculpting and drawing are very closely linked and it was a joy to combine years of honing her drawing skills to expand into the new media, clay.
Laila's sculptures are cast using a process called cold casting or bonded casting. It provides the look and feel of the traditional bronze casting process by mixing a liquid bonding agent with a finely ground powder bronze. It is then hand finished and patinated like a traditional bronze.
Intimacy and sensuality is a continuous theme throughout all of Laila’s creations, and her works are held in many private collections around the world.
